About Me:
Paypa The Ghost (Antonio Smith) writes, arranges, and performs Hip Hop and R&B music with an original sound that he has developed that encompasses the streets with cross-over mainstream appeal. "I'm not a rapper, I’m just a guy that puts his life to the beat”, he jokes of his profession, quick to note that if the opportunity to become a mainstream artist ever came along, he'd pour his heart thru his pen until his music acquired a pulse. "Music forms this reality where I can really be myself, and what comes out of my pen is just simply another page of my life set to a drums and snares."
Music has been Paypa’s passion since he was twelve years old when he would competitively freestyle rap with his cousins nearly twice his at his grandmother’s house and practice on writing songs for his newly formed rap group. Paypa has never been close to his family since his mother and father abandoned him at the tender age of six. Bombarded with a trouble youth and a checkered past, Paypa found his outlet thru writing songs for his self and other artist his age(12) and older. Never dreaming of music as a career path at first, he joined the military and lived around the world before deciding on a career in Military Intelligence. With a promising career in the army with his newly earned sergeant stripes Paypa decided to leave the army early because he felt that life style was holding him back. He wanted to own his own record company and produce music for his self and others.
Paypa wanted to pursue music full time. In 2004 he started PaypaChasing Records and enjoyed a huge amount of success early with the release of his first album. Though not registered with sound scan, Paypa’s first album sold over 6,000 copies within 3 months and earned him respect in his local area. As his music career advanced, Paypa remained focused on writing new material with thoughts of someday crossing over to the mainstream. He completed his first 6 albums in exactly one year and three months. "I just sit down and start writing, now I can't put down my pen “
Whether his future includes getting his record company signed to a major record deal, or just simply keeping it independent and taking it to the mainstream himself. Paypa will continue to create music from his heart, and share it with his fans until he can no longer continue to do so. "I will continue to live up to my nickname, “The Ghost” and keep ‘emcees not seeing my skill but feeling my presence’ (definition of The Ghost).”
