The Southern Mix may have found the perfect representatives of Southern Hip- Hop with our latest interview with the Georgia Hip-Hop group, The Representativez. Members Blaze Hazel, MG, & Robbery took the time to complete this fantastic interview with The Southern Mix—Check it out!
Isaac-Joseph: Briefly describe how you entered into the music industry.
Repz: Each of us, during our own journeys in life, entered music as an escape from the troublesome upbringings each of us endured...
Isaac-Joseph: What is the most rewarding aspect to making music currently for you?
Repz: As a group, the most rewarding aspect of making music is the ability to speak our minds and have fans relate to our perspectives... there is nothing more rewarding than reaching someone
Isaac-Joseph: What has discouraged you the most about making music?
Repz: The most discouraging thing about making music is the thought of having to dumb down your lyrical content to fit a "mainstream" standard...
Isaac-Joseph: Do you have a personal philosophy about music? If so, what is it?
Repz: Music is life... it has the power to define who we are and also sway the way society thinks as a whole... without music, outside of the box wouldn't exist.... it's just another form of artistic expression, opinion, and rebellion... like I said, music is life.
Isaac-Joseph: When you are performing live in front of an audience, what are the thoughts that are running through you head?
Repz: Thank God the room isn't empty, hahaha!
Isaac-Joseph: Why is being an independent musician important to you?
Repz: In all aspects of living, independence is a must... and rings true in music as well. who wants to sound like everyone else? Not us!
Isaac-Joseph: Do you think the Internet has altered the path of music as an industry? If so, how?
Repz: the Internet has had good and bad results as far as music goes... the short and sweet answer is this... the upside is availability... the downside... availability.
Isaac-Joseph: Any advice for other musicians out there when it comes to using the Internet as a medium for getting their music heard to the masses?
Repz: Yes... do it!
Isaac-Joseph: What kind of recording software do you use?
Repz: Expensive.
Isaac-Joseph: I know that everybody has his or her idea of a dream artist, someone who for whatever reasons that person would just love to listen to and admire. As an entertainer yourself, if you could play with one of your "dream" musicians, anyone at all, who would it be and why?
Repz: WOW! good question...there's no solid answer to that because every single track calls for a certain sound and there's a dream artist for every sound, sometimes more than one... to us, our dream artist can change as fast the tracks on your CD player....
Isaac-Joseph: What are you hoping to gain from your experience of being a musician and making music?
Repz: First and foremost, Respect! Second, a chance to have our voice heard.
Isaac-Joseph: What are you hopes for your music in the year 2008?
Repz: For now, we're gonna have to keep that a secret... but something tells me you'll find out soon enough.
Isaac-Joseph: This is our Shout Out time. Please give props to anyone and everyone that matters the most to you.
Repz: Family, friends, musicians, & real mutha fuckas... pardon my French.
Isaac-Joseph: This is Shameless Plug time: Give us some updates on new releases and other projects in the works.
Repz: It can be best summed up as
WWW. BANGERCITY. COM "the movement has begun".
Isaac-Joseph: Final Thoughts:
Repz: Thank you for scratchin the surface of the Representativez... together we can make a difference through music and we love that we have an opportunity be a part of it... long live individuality and originality... long live the REPZ... and long live Banger City Records!!!! The next empire out of the A!!!! Peace, love, and popcorn shrimp...
